One explosive eruption that lasted almost four minutes was observed in Mount Kanlaon in the past 24 hours, the PHIVOLCS reported.
The agency observed that the eruption lasted for three minutes and 55 seconds with 4,000 meters tall eruption column, voluminous emission in a west and southwest drift.
Pyroclastic Density Currents (PDC) approximately 2 to 3.4 kilometers distance travelled from the crater, and 20 volcanic earthquakes were also noted.
The PHIVOLCS also reported 1,669 tonnes per day of Sulfur Dioxide flux was released before the eruption that occurred on Monday.
There is also ground deformation observed, PHIVOLCS reported that the volcano edifice is inflated.
Mount Kanlaon remains at Alert Level 3 or intensified unrest/ magmatic unrest.
PHIVOLCS recommends the following:
- Evacuation from the 6-kilometer radius from the volcano’s summit
- Flying of any aircraft close to the volcano should not be allowed
- Monitoring of possible hazards, including sudden explosive eruption, lava flow or effusion, ashfall, PDC, rockfall, lahars during heavy rains.
