While Metro Manila and several regins experiences a rainy Christmas, it’s a different story for those in Baguio City as tourists and residents enjoyed a cold and rain-free Christmas Day.
According to Bam Alegre’s report in 24 Oras on Wednesday, the state weather bureau logged a temperature of up to 17 degrees celsius in the country’s “Summer Capital”.
People flocked to the city’s various landmarks and tourist attractions such as the iconic Lion’s Head that greets visitors along Kennon Road.
“First time lang po namin dito sa Lion’s Head pumunta,” said Rosalita Gamgam, who brought her family with her all the way from Taguig City.
(It is our first time to visit the Lion’s Head.)
Tourists went horseback riding in Wright Park, visited official Presidential residence, The Mansion, and picturesque Mines View Park.
But Burnham Park in the heart of the city remains as the most popular spot for many in Baguio. The famous Baguio destination was designed by Daniel Burnham who was also behind the masterplans of the cities of Chicago and Washington D.C.
At the iconic park, people can enjoy food, bicycle riding, and boat riding while sampling the City of Pines’ mountain climate.
Meanwhile, there are some who chose to have a picnic at Camp John Hay where they can enjoy nature.
“Medyo convenient kasi dito. Hindi mo na kailangan gumastos ng malaki, basta magkakasama lang ang pamilya,” said Earl Llagas, a visitor.
(It’s more convenient here. You don’t need to spend too much as long as you are with your family.)
Of course, a trip to Baguio would not be complete without tasting its famous Strawberry Taho (soft tofu).
According to the Baguio Public Information Office, Christmas Day in the city is “generally peaceful” while police visibility remains in place in various locations. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
