PLDT, Inc. (PLDT) said on Monday that Cathy Yap-Yang, the telco group’s head of corporate communications and first vice president, had voluntarily stepped down effective Dec. 1.
“This event is not expected to have any significant impact on the company’s current or future operations, financial position, or results of operations,” PLDT said in a stock exchange filing.
In a social media post on Monday, Yap-Yang thanked all her co-workers in PLDT, describing 2024 as being an “eventful” year.
“2024 has been truly eventful, with the full ecosystem of tech, media and telco coming together for me in quite unexpected ways, deepening and broadening my roles as a journalist and corporate citizen,” she said.
Yap-Yang joined PLDT in August 2020 as head of group corporate communications, just months after media network ABS-CBN ceased its radio and television operations after its franchise renewal bid was rejected by Congress.
Yap-Yang said she would be returning to media in 2025 under the Pangilinan group.
She graduated with an AB Communication Arts degree from De La Salle University in 1991, after which she joined ABS-CBN for eight years, serving in various roles.
After working for several other TV shows locally and abroad, Yap-Yang returned to ABS-CBN as the face of its business news coverage and as managing editor.
From September 2015, she served as the anchor of ANC’s “Market Edge” and “Business Nightly,” shows before joining PLDT in 2020.
PLDT shares rose by P45, or 3.47 percent, to P1,342 each on Monday.
