MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos will preside over a security command conference at Camp Crame today, which the Philippine National Police (PNP) maintained is not a loyalty check amid the stormy political climate in the country.
A lockdown will be imposed in Camp Crame as part of preparations to ensure Marcos’ security at the PNP’s main camp.
PNP public information officer Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said it is the third national peace and order council meeting to be presided over by the President this year.
Among the topics expected to be discussed are potential areas of concern in the 2025 midterm elections, the current peace and order situation and investigation of high-profile cases.
Representatives from the Armed Forces of the Philippines will also present an update on the internal security threats in the country, according to Fajardo.
She clarified the meeting is not a loyalty check on the uniformed services following the rift between President Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte.
“There is no need to conduct a loyalty check because time and again, we say that the PNP will remain loyal to the Constitution and to our duly constituted authorities,” Fajardo emphasized.
Fajardo added the meeting with the President was scheduled long before the conflict between Marcos and Duterte hogged the headlines.
“The PNP must not be affected by political noises and other bickering,” she said.
The conference will also be attended by Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil.
