THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) highlighted growth in revenues, increased traffic and several ongoing projects in its 2024 year-end report, positioning the country’s ports for continued development and improved service delivery.
In the first 10 months of 2024, the PPA achieved significant growth in both financial and operational performance. As of Oct. 30, 2024, total revenue reached P22.58 billion, compared to P20.96 billion during the same period in 2023. Container throughput stood at 6,417,517 TEUs, and cargo throughput reached 244,723,519 metric tons.
Passenger traffic increased by 5.9 percent in 2024, with 65,666,806 passengers handled in the first 10 months. In the cruise sector, 88,048 cruise passengers were recorded from January to October, with projections indicating an additional 35,137 passengers for the remainder of the year.

PPA General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago highlighted that PPA continues to enhance port infrastructure, with 28 projects underway in Luzon, 23 in the Visayas and 15 in Mindanao. Significant developments in the cruise sector include the expansion of the Eva Macapagal Cruise Terminal at Manila South Harbor and upgrades to the Ports of Jubang in Dapa, Surigao del Norte, and Alegria in Burunga, Aklan. These projects are aimed at bolstering the country’s capacity to accommodate international cruise tourism.
In 2024, the PPA also completed several key port projects, including upgrades to Batangas Port, Puerto Galera Port, Curimao Port, Surigao Port, and the PPA-PCG K9 Academy. Other completed projects include improvements to Lawigan Port in Marinduque, Tubigon Port in Bohol, and Catillan Port. These efforts reflect the PPA’s ongoing commitment to expanding capacity, improving security and streamlining operations.
Currently, the PPA oversees 66 ongoing projects, with major developments such as the expansion of Currimao Port, the restoration of Salomague Port, the Capinpin Port expansion, and the Lamao (Limay) Port improvement project. Other ongoing initiatives include the Mauban Port Improvement Project, Plaridel Port Development, San Andres Port Expansion, and Phase I of the Puerto Princesa Port Expansion Project. These projects are expected to further enhance the operational capacity of the country’s ports to handle growing passenger and cargo traffic in the years ahead.
Santiago said, “The PPA remains committed to implementing policies and initiatives that enhance port services and support the public. We are focused on delivering greater improvements for the Filipino people and the government in the coming year.”
