MANILA, Philippines — The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has warned the public against social media sites offering SIM card registration services for all networks for a minimal fee.

Alexander Ramos, CICC executive director, said there is “no shortcut or seamless way” to register a SIM or subscriber module identity.

Ramos noted that SIM card users are required to personally register with their respective networks, show a government-issued identification card and take a selfie.

“The SIM registration process is not that complicated and there is no need to hire a third party to do it for you. Do not be deceived  by those offering to register your SIM,” Ramos said.

The SIM Card Registration Act or Republic Act 11934 was enacted by President Marcos on Oct. 10, 2022 and took effect on Dec. 27, 2022 to promote the responsible use of  SIM.

As of July 30, 2023, a total of 113,969,014 SIMs had been registered out of over 168 million in circulation in the country.
