MANILA, Philippines – Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte announced on Sunday villages, schools, hospitals, businesses and youth-based organizations who received the Quezon City Green Awards.

Belmonte said this year’s awardees showcased how the multi-sectoral and whole-of-city approach plays a crucial role in mitigating and adapting to the inevitable effects of the climate crisis.

The Green Award recognized institutions that have made significant contributions in addressing climate change and advancing sustainable practices.

The awardees were Barangay San Antonio for their SANA OIL (Sustainable Grease and Oil Waste Management Initiative), Barangay Commonwealth’s ResKyusi Food Basket Program, Barangay Batasan Hills for Juan Batasan, Barangay Immaculate Conception’s Farmville and Barangay Philam for their solid waste management and solutions project.

Also honored were the Dr. Montano Ramos General Hospital for its Clean and Sustainable Energy for the Future, Capitol Medical Center for their Capitol Cares: Save Energy for a Sustainable Future, Lung Center of the Philippines for the utilization of solar panels, and V. Luna Medical Center for their Halamanan sa Bakuran ng DMHBS.

The city also recognized Luntiang Pamumuhay Inc.’s Back to Basics Ecostore, Robinsons Novaliches’ Recycling Market, Maynilad Water Services, Inc. for installing two 1-Megawatt Solar Farm at the La Mesa Compound, Eastwood City’s My Home, My Responsibility initiative, St. Theresa’s College of Quezon City for their SINOP Program, New Era High School’s Plastic-free Mondays and Commonwealth High School for its Gulayan sa Paaralan as well as Batasan Youth Leaders Coalition’s PAPEL-LIKHASAN: Likhang Papel mula sa Kalikasan, Youth Environmental Sustainability Organization for their Project WAYSTE: Transforming Waste in Different Ways, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Payatas’ RETASO: REcycling Textiles towArds Sustainable Opportunities and SK Culiat for their Bote ang Pag-asa ng Kabataan – Imprenta sa Basura.

Under the Resilience Category, the recipients were lauded for demonstrating resilience, preparedness, and response in the face of natural or man-made disasters, Belmonte said.

They were Jose P. Laurel Sr. High School for their Project L.I.G.T.A.S. (Laurel’s Innovation in Gaining Tactics on the Ability to Save Lives and Safety of the School), Camp Crame High School’s Resiliency For All: A Project On Emergency Preparedness, Barangay Batasan Hills’ BATASAN is ReADY (Resilient And Disaster prepared for You), Barangay Culiat’s SUSTAINABLE AGUSAN PEOPLE’S ACTIVITY(SAPA), Barangay Commonwealth for its ‘Padyak Ko Kaligtasan Mo: Creating a Safe and Resilient Barangay, One ‘Padyak;’ at a Time, Barangay Novaliches Proper’s May Liwanag ang Buhay and Cloverleaf Balintawak Estate Association Inc. for its Retention Pond Project.

Other “resilient” awardees were Sun properties Development Corporation’s 4Ps ng ‘Sakuna: P-lano, P-agkilos, P-agtulong, P-ag-abot sa Komunidad,’ SM Prime Holdings (SM City – Novaliches) for its Resilient Water Solutions: Rainwater Harvesting Planter Tanks for Climate Adaptation, AyalaLand Offices (Technohub) Rain Garden Development with Solar-Powered Irrigation and Aerator System, SK Sauyo for its Project SAFE (Strategic Assistance for Families of Persons with Disability, Youths in Emergencies) & CARE (Comprehensive Approach for Rescue and Emergencies), Commonwealth Young Leaders Coalition’s Project inKYUSave: Building a Resilient and Inclusive Community and Batang Del Monte Inc. for their EFloodCuate.

The mayor said the awardees each received cash grants that they could use for their green and resilient program implementation and development.

There were 160 entries from villages, youth organizations, businesses, hospitals, and schools but only 33 were awarded.

Launched in 2023, the Quezon City Green Awards recognizes and incentivizes stakeholders that implement outstanding and inclusive programs on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Action, it added.
