A rare bird called cacatua haematuropygia or ‘abukay’ was seen in Bohol by the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Region 7 personnel.
According to Kuya Kim Ano Na segment on “24 Oras,” the last sighting of the abukay was in 2017.

Mataas yung risk ng species extinction natin kailangan may data tayo para may maisagawa tayong conservation efforts,” said the DENR.
(We went to the forested area of Barangay Magsaysay in Sevilla, Bohol. It was reported by the locals that they saw it around 3 p.m. photographed by a friend perched on a pili tree, two of them. The risk of our species extinction is high, we need to have data so that we can carry out conservation efforts.)
This bird, also called red-vented cockatoo or Philippine cockatoo, is considered endemic, which means that this can only be seen in the country.
Its body is covered with white feathers while beneath its wings and tail, the bird is hides a bright color of yellow and red.
However, they said the bird is now endangered. They used to be seen in various parts of the country but through the years, their population has decreased from 60 percent to 90 percent. —Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
