“Buti na alam nila na ‘pag namatay ako, I will not die in vain,” Duterte said in a press conference.
(If I die, it’s better that they know that I will not die in vain.)
The Vice President was referring to her controversial statement that she already hired someone to kill Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, should an alleged plot against her succeed.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has launched a probe into Duterte’s remarks, already issuing a second subpoena for her to appear before its office on Wednesday, December 11.
However, Duterte did not face the NBI anew and was instead represented by her lawyer Paul Lim, who gave the bureau a letter on her non-appearance and denial.
In the House of Representatives, two impeachment complaints have been filed against her.
The first of which was submitted by advocacy groups on the grounds of alleged corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes. This complaint was endorsed by Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña.
The second impeachment complaint was filed by more than 70 representatives from various sectors, anchored on alleged betrayal of public trust in connection with alleged misuse of confidential funds. It was endorsed by the progressive Makabayan bloc. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
