MANILA, Philippines — The SM Group is going full blast on redeveloping its various malls nationwide next year as part of efforts to provide customers with a better experience.

SM Supermalls president Steven Tan said the company is currently undertaking a lot of renovations for its shopping centers nationwide.

“It’s more than 10 projects next year just for renovations and redevelopment. Some of them are for completion, some of them are starting,” Tan said.

“Mall of Asia is already at the tail end. We’ll be launching Sky Park, which will have a FIFA-sized football field. We’ve started with Megamall, so exciting times ahead for Megamall. Aura is undergoing renovation. Clark, we would also start redeveloping,” he said.

The redevelopment aims to transform SM malls into sustainable, innovative, community-centric spaces.

Under its reinvention plan, SM Supermalls intends to create more spaces for leisure and interaction in its malls while celebrating local communities at the same time.

Aside from renovations and redevelopment, Tan said that SM would also launch three new malls next year.

“We have three malls opening next year. Laoag, La Union and Zamboanga. Zamboanga will be our second mall in the area,” Tan said.

SM City Laoag will have a gross floor area (GFA) of 113,000 square meters, while SM City La Union will have 112,000 square meters.

SM City Zamboanga, on its end, will provide 91,000 square meters of GFA.

SM has 87 malls in its portfolio after opening two new malls this year – SM City Caloocan in May and SM City J Mall in Cebu.

With its continuing expansion, SM Prime is eyeing a portfolio of 100 malls in the country by the end of 2027.

“One hundred is a good number. We hope to reach it by 2027. However, the most important thing is we deliver joy wherever we go. We want to give the best service to the public; that’s something we focus on,” Tan said.

“We’re opening three this 2025, another four or five in 2026, then another five in 2027. So we should be able to reach it, but I don’t want to declare it as it is a sure number that we will have,” he said.
