An “akyat-bahay” suspect was nabbed after a buy-bust operation by the Pasig Police.

According to Emil Sumangil’s “24 Oras” report, the suspect was initially arrested due to his involvement in illegal drugs.

He was investigated thoroughly because he allegedly looked like the man in the video who was involved in the robbery case.

“When we reviewed the CCTV footage, isa sa mga insidente ng mga akyat-bahay, nakita namin nagi-isa yung suspect ang may familiarity, may similarity dito sa nahuli namin na suspect. So ang ginawa namin pinakita namin ito sa mga witnesses and yung mga victim, at kino-confirm nila na the same and one person yung suspect na nahuli namin sa buy-bust operation,” said Police Colonel Hendrix Mangaldan, Pasicg Police Chief.

(When we reviewed the CCTV footage, in one of the incidents of akyat-bahay, we saw that the suspect was the only one with familiarity, there was a similarity to the suspect we caught. So what we did was we showed it to the witnesses and the victims, and they confirmed that the suspect was the same person.)

One of the people who recognized the suspect was the barangay tanod.

“Mayroon po akong natanaw na isang lalaki pababa po sa second floor. Siya po ay aking sinigawan na natakbo siya. Nang aking hahabulin natanggal yung kadena ng bike ko,” said the barangay tanod.

(I saw a man coming down from the second floor. I shouted at him and he ran away. When I chased him, the bike chain came off.)

Based on the investigation, the suspect is also involved in other robbery cases.

“May recorded na kami sa kaniya na dalawang incident na akyat-bahay. Same village,” said Mangaldan.

(We have already recorded two incidents of him going from house to house. Same village.)

“May nakita lang po akong bukas ang bintana, tapos inakyat ko na agad. Baka sakali lang. Pag-akyat ko ng bintana may nakita akong wallet,” the suspect explained.

(I saw an open window. I immediately went upstairs.  I was just trying my luck, then I saw a wallet.)

He said he got P1,500 and he went home after the robbery and bought his mother’s medicine.

“Humihingi po ako ng tawad kaya ko lang po nagawa ay may sakit ang nanay ko, sala lang po ng kahirapan sir, sana mapatawad po nila ako,” he added.

(I’m asking for forgiveness, I only did it because my mother is sick, it’s due to poverty. I hope they can forgive me.) —Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
