PUTRAJAYA—Malaysian pride has fallen solely on the shoulders of the Selangor Red Giants after they swept Singapore’s NIP Flash, 3-0, during the M6 World Championship knockout stage on Tuesday in front of the home crowd at the IOI City Mall in Malaysia.
The back-to-back MPL Malaysia champions imposed their will to advance to the lower bracket quarterfinals and send the Singapore powerhouse packing.
SRG, who also ruled the Mid-Season Cup 2024 against no less than Falcons AP. Bren, will take on RRQ Hoshi in the lower bracket quarterfinals while another Malaysian representative in Team Vamos fell prey to Team Spirit earlier in the day, 1-3, to formally bomb out of contention.
Filipino gold laner John “Innocent” Banal starred for SRG, unleashing his masterful use of Bruno with seven kills and seven assists against just one death as they turned things around late in Game 3.
They will now be tested against another powerhouse in RRQ, a team eager to bounce back and keep the Indonesian dream alive in the tournament.
But head coach Micahel “Arcadia” Bocado isn’t taking RRQ lightly, even if he’s familiar with its game play after having called the shots for the franchise before.
“They’re a pretty good team, basically a runner-up of MP Indonesia so RRQ is someone we shouldn’t underestimate, especially when it comes to their hero pool,” Arcadia said.
“We actually prepared in the last two days of our training to prepare for NIP Flash and RRQ. Hopefully, we can execute our plans for tomorrow.”
