ARCHITECTURE and media both play a critical role in shaping society. While architecture transforms the physical environment to meet human needs and aspirations, media bridges the gap between professionals and the public by informing, inspiring and educating.

In celebration of the Philippine Architecture Festival–National Architecture Month (PAF-NAM) with the theme “Sinag ng Bahaghari: Fostering Nation-Building, Hope, and Inclusivity Through Architecture,” the United Architects of the Philippines–Makati CBD Chapter and The Manila Times have come together to forge a partnership. This collaboration seeks to highlight the importance of architecture in nation-building while leveraging the power of media to reach a wider audience and inspire meaningful conversations.

From Dec. 13 to 15, 2024, the chapter hosted a three-part activity at The Manila Times premises in Intramuros, Manila. Each activity aligned with one of the overarching themes: inclusivity, hope and nation-building.

The celebration began with a ceremonial signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two organizations, represented by yours truly as the president of UAP Makati CBD Chapter and Ms. Anna Marie Ang-Thompson, chief executive officer of The Manila Times. The MOU establishes a formal partnership that reflects mutual support and cooperation between both organizations. Its objectives include advancing initiatives aligned with shared goals such as education, innovation and social responsibility while promoting the exchange of resources, expertise, and opportunities for mutual growth and development.

To embody inclusivity, the chapter conducted a PWD accessibility audit at The Manila Times, which was part of the agreement between the two organizations. Dubbed “Inclusive Spaces: A PWD Accessibility Audit,” this initiative assesses and enhances the office’s accessibility for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
