ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A barangay chairman and her husband were killed in an attack by motorycle-riding assailants in Dueñas, Iloilo yesterday morning.
Michelle Lamela, 47, chief of Barangay Sto. Niño, and her husband Rodney were declared dead on arrival at the Don Valerio Plamares Sr. District Hospital in Passi City.
Reports said the victims were on a motorcycle when they were killed in Barangay Tinucuan at around 9:30 a.m.
Maj. Rolando Araño, spokesman for the Iloilo police, said the assailants could be waiting for the victims to pass by the area.
Araño said probers are eyeing an old grudge or a land dispute as the motive for the killing.
He said probers are not ruling out the possibility that the killing was politically motivated.
