Minimum wage earners in CARAGA region are set to receive higher wages starting next month after the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) approved a P50 daily wage increase in the region.

According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) affirmed the wage order of the RTWPB, granting a P50 daily wage hike for private sector workers, which will be given in two tranches.

The wage hike will increase the daily minimum wage in Caraga from P385 to P415 starting January 2, 2025, and from P415 to P435 upon the effectivity of the second tranche on May 1, 2025.

Meanwhile, the RTWPB also approved a P1,000 increase for domestic workers (kasambahays) in the region, bringing their minimum wage to P6,000.

“The wage order is expected to directly benefit 65,681 minimum wage earners in the region,” the DOLE said.

“About 132,217 full-time wage and salary workers earning above the minimum wage may also indirectly benefit as a result of upward adjustments at the enterprise level arising from the correction of wage distortion,” it said.

The DOLE also expects that at least 32,866 domestic workers will benefit from the increase, of which 7,939 were under live-in arrangements.

In May, DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said some regional wage boards would begin the review of wage orders after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered a study of the minimum wage rates in every region.

Laguesma previously said the DOLE is expecting all RTWPBs across the country to finish their review before the end of the year.
