SOME 137,000 college students will each receive P15,000 cash aid this year under the Tulong Dunong Program (TDP) of the government, Quezon City 4th District Rep. Marvin Rillo said on Sunday.
Rillo is a member of the House Committee on Appropriations and vice chairman of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education.
“In the 2025 General Appropriations Law, Congress has earmarked P2.06 billion for the TDP, which provides grantees with cash aid of P7,500 per semester, or P15,000 per academic year,” he said in a statement.
“We are absolutely determined to keep up the annual funding for the TDP, which has helped to lessen the financial difficulties of students pursuing their college education,” he said.
The TDP is among the tertiary education subsidy programs of the government. It “aims to support at least the partial cost of college schooling, inclusive of education-related expenses of the grantee.”
New and continuing grantees must, under the guidelines, be enrolled in any undergraduate program of a college or university, whether public or private, recognized by the Commission on Higher Education.
