61% in favor of House QuadComm’s EJK, POGO probe —Pulse Asia survey

Sixty-one percent of Filipinos are in favor of the House Quad Committee’s joint investigation into on the issues of illegal drugs trade and extrajudicial killings (EJKs) relative to the Duterte administration’s drug war as well as Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), a commissioned Pulse Asia survey showed.

The study, which was conducted from November 26 to December 3,2024 and commissioned by Stratbase Consultancy, showed that only 11% do not favor the investigation, while 24% cannot say if they are in favor or not.

From the 61% national percentage, 73% of the respondents in the National Capital Region are in favor of the QuadComm investigation, followed by 66% in Balance Luzon and 59% in Visayas.

While the lowest percentage of respondents that are in favor of the probe was recorded in Mindanao at 46%, the number of those who cannot say if they are in favor of the QuadComm investigation or not is highest in the same area at 30%.

Mindanao is considered a bailiwick of former President Rodrigo Duterte and his allies who were implicated in the issues being investigated by the joint House panels.

Among the socio-economic classes, the House QuadComm investigation gained the highest support from Classes ABC at 64%, D at 62%, and E at 52%.

The survey was conducted among 2,400 respondents who were asked, “Are you in favor of the investigation being conducted by four committees, or the joint QUAD or QUAD Comm, of the House of Representatives on extra-judicial killings, illegal drugs, and POGOs?”

The margin of error of the study is at ±2%.

The survey also asked the respondents what they want the House QuadComm investigation to achieve. They were given five suggested answers to choose from, but they were also allowed to give answers that are not in the list.

According to the Pulse Asia survey, 37% of Filipinos want the QuadComm to discover who the government officials behind the EJKs, illegal drug activities, and POGO operations are.

Twenty-seven percent want the investigation to lead to the crafting of new laws that will address the issues that are being investigated, while 11% want the investigation to result in the prosecution and conviction of the perpetrators, conspirators, and mastermind of the whole criminal network.

Nine percent want the QuadComm probe to promote truth, seek justice, and foster healing of the Filipino people, five percent want the investigation to result in the restoration of public’s trust in government, while 7% said they don’t have enough knowledge to give an opinion. — BM, GMA Integrated News
