THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said it has taken steps to strengthen its cybersecurity amid the reported hacking by China on sensitive government data.
“So, on the side of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, we are in very close coordination in terms of our ally partners,” said AFP spokesman Col. Francel Margareth Padilla, noting the military’s cyber and intelligence command were in full alert against hacking attempts that would threaten national security.
Padilla was responding to a report by Bloomberg, saying Chinese hackers might have been targeting the Palace and might have stolen military data.
She said the Department of Information and Communications Technology gave assurances that no sensitive information had been compromised.
Padilla said they have been directed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to fortify the military’s cybersecurity in a military command conference in Camp Aguinaldo.
Philippine Army chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido said cybersecurity not only affects the military, noting that a breach of any front would affect the country as a whole.
