MANILA, Philippines — Following the killing of another Filipina domestic helper in Kuwait, the Philippine government is reviewing the deployment of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in the Arab country.

The results of the police investigation into the killing of Dafnie Nacalaban and the filing of criminal charges against the alleged killer are factors being considered in the review, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac said yesterday.

Nacalaban had been reported missing since October. Her decomposing body was found in the backyard of her Kuwaiti employer, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

The DFA confirmed that the alleged killer has been arrested.

Nacalaban was supposed to come home last December to surprise her family.

Cacdac said the Philippine government would ask Kuwaiti authorities to ensure the protection of Filipinos working in the Arab country.

The Philippines has an existing bilateral labor agreement with Kuwait for the protection of OFWs, Cacdac said.

He said the government would repatriate the remains of Nacalaban upon release by Kuwaiti authorities.

“In situations such as this, the remains of the victim are part of the probe. We are hoping that after the examination of the body, we can bring her home,” Cacdac said.
