THE Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Clark has intercepted P2.65 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu,” concealed in coffee bean pouches shipped from the United States.
The shipment arrived on Dec. 17, 2024, declared as “Gift Items: Coffee Bags (Variety), Candy or Snacks.” During Custom’s profiling and X-ray scanning, the shipment was flagged for further X-ray inspection.
Upon physical examination, four vacuum-sealed transparent pouches containing 390 grams of shabu were discovered inside coffee bags. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) later confirmed the substance as methamphetamine hydrochloride following laboratory analysis.
BOC’s operation was conducted in coordination with PDEA Regional Office III, the PNP Aviation Security Unit, the PNP Drug Enforcement Group III, the NBI Pampanga, and local officials from Barangay Dau, Mabalacat City.
