The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Friday said it has formally asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to probe the stabbing incident Thursday that led to the death of a person deprived of liberty (PDL) and injuries to two others at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

In a statement, BuCor said at least four PDLs who are believed to be involved are being investigated.

The slain PDL was identified as Ricardo Peralta.

“[T]he BuCor is asking the two agencies to conduct its own investigation in order to further establish the facts, promote transparency, and determine accountability in the death of PDL Ricardo Peralta,” it said in a statement.

According to the bureau, Peralta’s body was claimed by his common law wife on Thursday evening.

The two PDLs who sustained stab wounds, meanwhile, were brought to the Ospital ng Muntinlupa.

The BuCor headquarters previously ordered all superintendents of all operating prison and penal farms to take precautionary measures.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
