MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has requested the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine National Police to conduct a parallel investigation into a stabbing incident at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa on Thursday.

The attack resulted in the death of Ricardo Peralta and injuries to Reginal Lacuerta and Bert Cupada.

BuCor officer-in-charge Al Perreras asked NBI Director Jaime Santiago and Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Marbil to conduct independent probes to establish the facts, ensure transparency and identify those accountable in the incident.

Perreras also instructed acting NBP superintendent Roger Boncales to submit an incident report and cooperate fully with the NBI and police investigations.

At least four prisoners are being investigated for their involvement in the incident.
