CAGAYAN State University (CSU) plans to build an electric vehicle (EV) development and production facility in the region through partnerships established with CHRG Electric Vehicle Technologies Inc., and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC). The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was formalized in December 2024 at the Golden Phoenix Hotel in Pasay City.
CSU Officer in Charge President Arthur Ibañez said that the partnership will also create cutting-edge technologies developed by the university’s Electromobility Research and Development Center.
The signing of the MOU was led by Ibañez; Leo Allen Tayo, CHRG president and CEO; and Robert Dizon, DOST-MIRDC executive director. DOST Secretary Renato Solidum and other officials witnessed it.
An engineer by profession, Ibañez underscored that CSU developed the eTrike and converted electric tricycles or CTrikes as projects under the DOST Niche Centers in the Regions for Research and Development program.
He said these initiatives “focus on reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner energy.”
Ibañez said CSU continues to advance sustainable innovations by forging technology licensing agreements with prominent industry partners led by Victorino Ocon, Suki Trading president; Timothy Joshua Vargas, Mayatech Inc. president; and Ronie Marcos, ACT Machineries and Metal Craft Corp. president.
Ibañez noted that CSU’s focus on research and real-world applications aims to drive economic growth while ensuring environmental sustainability.
