MANILA, Philippines — E-wallet giant GCash is making further efforts to widen its overseas presence, this time teaming up with Ria Money Transfer, one of the biggest cash remittance platforms in the world.
GCash said it has partnered with Ria to offer remittance service to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Australia, Europe, Singapore and the US.
The partnership allows OFWs to transfer funds straight to the GCash balance of their families in the Philippines even without an account with GCash Overseas.
GCash said sending money to its platform via Ria means receiving the funds in real time anytime and anywhere. Further, Ria promises one of the lowest service fees, benefiting OFWs who remit cash on a regular basis.
GCash International general manager Paul Albano said the e-wallet decided to strike a partnership with Ria to expand its network abroad. Ria is present in at least 507,000 locations in 160 countries, and GCash can tap into this coverage for added footprint.
“We are continuing to strengthen our partnerships around key corridors so we can help Filipinos wherever they may be, (and) we are also strengthening our presence in Ria money transfer stores all over the world as a sign of our commitment to grow with Ria,” Albano said.
Recently, GCash made a pitch to build up its reputation to OFWs, with the e-wallet doubling as a remittance channel charging zero fees when the transfer is GCash to GCash.
Moreover, the e-wallet has started operating financial services abroad through GCash Overseas, making itself available in some of the OFW-heavy economies.
