SEN. Bong Go, who heads the Senate Committee on Sports, has long advocated for Filipino athletes’ interests, offering policy backing and direct help to those pursuing their aspirations.

His initiatives have impacted various sports venues, from community-level competitions to global tournaments.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) plays a crucial role in realizing its goal of uplifting local talent.

“Our athletes are the inspiration of many Filipinos. That’s why we should support them to the best of our ability,” said Senator Go in Filipino.

This ethos has translated into tangible results, such as facilitating financial aid to aspiring athletes and their families with the PSC.

Notable beneficiaries include Ellen Avanzado, who requested assistance for her daughter, Eleora, to participate in triathlon competitions.

Beyond immediate aid, Senator Go’s work lays the groundwork for systemic change.

He played a key role in creating the National Academy of Sports (NAS), established through Republic Act (RA) 11470, which he authored and co-sponsored.

Situated in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac, NAS offers student-athletes a unique opportunity to pursue secondary education alongside a sports-centered curriculum.

“Supporting young athletes is not only for them but also for the future of sports in our country,” Senator Go emphasized during the academy’s launch.

In addition to his efforts with NAS, Senator Go also pushes for institutionalizing the Philippine National Games (PNG).

It seeks to strengthen a structured national sports program that promotes grassroots sports and provides opportunities for aspiring athletes to compete at the national level.

As the Senate’s sponsor of the sports budget, Senator Go has advocated for increased funding for athletic programs and facilities.

Under his leadership, renovating iconic sports venues like the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila and the Philsports Arena in Pasig City became priorities, ensuring Filipino athletes train in world-class environments.

These efforts are complemented by initiatives addressing nutrition, mental health, and access to cutting-edge equipment — cornerstones of modern athletic preparation.

Senator Go remains deeply connected to individual stories of resilience and triumph. For example, PSC records show that financial assistance has reached hundreds of athletes and performers recently, with Senator Go supporting such requests.

“As I always remind our youth, get into sports, stay away from illegal drugs to keep us healthy and fit,” Go frequently reiterates, underscoring his dual mission of athletic excellence and holistic well-being.

“We will continue to serve you because it is my habit to serve, and I believe that service to people is service to the Lord, service to Allah,” said Senator Go, Mr. Malasakit, for his compassionate service to Filipinos in need.
