MALACAÑANG over the weekend issued Proclamation No. 767 declaring January 24 a special non-working day in the municipality of Carigara, Leyte, in celebration of its 454th founding anniversary.
The founding anniversary is on Jan. 25, which falls on a Saturday.
The issuance of the document, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin last Jan. 3, will allow the locals of Carigara “to fully participate in the occasion” and “to provide for a longer weekend.” Prior to this, the Palace has also released Proclamation No. 766 declaring Jan. 9, the Feast of the Black Nazarene, a special non-working day in the city of Manila.
The yearly Traslacion, or the mass procession of devotees with the Black Nazarene, is longstanding tradition of the Catholic faithful.
Hundreds of thousands of devotees are expected to flock to Quiapo Church as well as the Quirino Grandstand to profess their faith to the Black Nazarene.
