THE Bases Conversion and Development (BCDA) in a statement cited inter-government efforts in the successful recovery of the Camp John Hay property in Baguio City — praising the whole process that caused no disruption to businesses, employees and guests in the popular tourism and commercial hub.
“It was a very successful undertaking despite the complicated nature of [regaining] control and possession of a 247-hectare property,” BCDA Chairman Hilario Paredes said of the recovery, which was enforced upon the release on Jan. 3 of an order from Branch 6 of the Baguio Regional Trial Court (RTC).
The court order stipulated “all land and improvements in the property, whether directly held by [former operator] CJH Development Corporation, its subsidiaries and/or affiliates or occupied/held by other individuals or parties claiming rights under them, must be turned over to the BCDA immediately.”
BCDA officially regained control of Camp John Hay following the Supreme Court’s resolution in October 2024 allowing the government corporation to recover the property from CJHDevCo.
Paderes also expressed gratitude to the Baguio City RTC, as well as the leadership and personnel of the Philippine National Police Cordillera Administrative Region and Baguio City, for ensuring peace and order during the entire exercise.
With the property now back in government control, BCDA said it will pursue redevelopment projects to transform Camp John Hay into a world-class, family- and community-oriented destination.
The plan will include balancing care for the environment and progress to uplift communities and enhance property values, BCDA added.
The ruling also allows BCDA to exercise authority over The Manor, The Forest Lodge, the Camp John Hay Golf Course, the CAP Convention Center, the Commander’s Cottage and surrounding open spaces.
BCDA assured these establishments will remain open to the public and continue to operate despite changes in management.
