MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is set to issue a 30-day preventive suspension against a modern public utility jeepney (PUJ) operator following a fatal accident involving one of its units.
Last Jan. 14, 2025 at around 2 p.m., a PUJ operated by Carmexss TSC allegedly overtook another vehicle, colliding with an oncoming tricycle. The impact sent both vehicles off a bridge, killing the tricycle driver and one passenger, and injuring several others, including two tricycle passengers and jeepney commuters, most of whom were students.
LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III confirmed the suspension pending results of an ongoing investigation.
“We’ve tasked LTFRB Region 3 to complete their investigation within 15 days,” Guadiz said.
The LTFRB stressed that reckless driving and negligence carry severe consequences, including preventive suspensions and possible franchise revocations. Guadiz urged operators to monitor drivers’ adherence to road safety standards to avoid similar tragedies.
Public utility vehicle operators and drivers were reminded to strictly comply with traffic rules to safeguard lives and prevent accidents.
