President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday tasked Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy to prioritize the agency’s Common Tower Program (CTP).
The program aims to enhance the delivery of government services, Marcos said.
“Focus on the Common Tower [Program] because we will be serving more people through that,” the President said during a meeting at the Malacañang Palace.
To recall, the common tower policy was first planned in 2018, under the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte. It seeks to free telecommunications companies from costly capital expenditures in building such towers.
Marcos, during his third State of the Nation Address, vowed to enforce policy reforms and government support for common towers.
Uy, for his part, assured Marcos of uninterrupted and more efficient operations for renewing 15,715 free Wi-Fi access point sites at P6 billion.
He added that P1.5 billion could be allocated for new sites and other initiatives, including the CTP.
