Marina launches 3rd leg of safety campaign

THE Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) Regional Office 10 (MRO10) launched the third leg of the Maritime Safety Culture Awareness Campaign Caravan 2024: Ligtas Byaheng Dagat.

The campaign caravan was held in collaboration with the Coast Guard District Northern Mindanao (CGDNM) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA)-Misamis Occidental/Ozamiz City.

The event commenced with a motorcade from Ozamiz City Hall to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Function Hall, followed by a town hall meeting at the Port Terminal Area.

The initiative aimed to enhance maritime safety and passenger awareness through consultative dialogues with key stakeholders.

In her opening remarks, MRO10 OIC-Regional Director Juliet Nacion reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships with stakeholders to uphold maritime safety standards.

“Through collaborative efforts and strategic initiatives, we are working toward a safer and more sustainable maritime industry,” Nacion said.

The event was supported by prominent officials, including Ozamiz City Mayor Henry Oaminal Jr. (represented by lawyer Sam Norman Fuentes); PPA Port Manager Salvador Delina (represented by Nenita Ponteras, OIC Finance Division manager); CG Commo. Vincent Bingbong Fiesta (represented by ENS John Pal Calingasan); and Aurora Egual, OIC MPDC, representing Sinacaban Mayor Dello Lood. Also present were maritime institutions, various stakeholders and members of the riding public.

The second part of the event focused on the Ligtas Byaheng Dagat Campaign, featuring lectures and discussions on compliance monitoring, enforcement and maritime safety investigations.

These were led by the Marina Central Office Enforcement Service Unit, represented by Jinky Mendoza, JD, alongside Roland Kenneth Ballesteros, Yasir Hassan Jr., and Rizza Jane Torres. PO2 Leonel Bulaqueña of the Philippine Coast Guard also delivered a presentation on the PCG’s scope of responsibilities in Northern Mindanao.
