It only took a text invitation to inform us of Mellie Concepcion Hechanova’s “heavenly” birthday lunch, with 90 amigas excitedly showing up for a celebration given by her loving daughters Renna Angeles, Raissa Posadas and Riana Trajano in their parents’ Forbes Park home. The event was a reunion for many who knew Mellie and her debonair husband Rafael “Paeng” Hechanova.

“Every time we see Mom’s friends, they say they miss her and the wonderful lunches and parties she used to host, as well as seeing the house so well decorated for the holidays and the Christmas trees that stay up all year. So we decided to host this lunch with Margarita Fores preparing the excellent food, and hand out simple giveaways to remember her,” Renna says.

“Mom used to say to continue these gatherings of friends even when she is gone. It truly made her happy when old friends got together. Others would tell us that only Mom could gather everyone and entertain the way she did,” Riana adds.

Raissa reminisces, “It has been five years since we had over 100 ladies waiting for Mom to come down to the dining hall for her birthday lunch at home. Instead, Mom had a medical incident while getting ready and had to be rushed to the hospital. So this lunch for her heavenly birthday is like the continuation of that aborted lunch celebration or, more accurately, a new and better memory for all her amigas to remember her by.”
