THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has advised residents of the cities of Navotas and Malabon to brace for possible floods due to problems with the Tangos-Tanza Navigational Gate.

In a statement, the MMDA said that until now the gate is malfunctioning.

“The gate is not functioning well because of the faulty electrical connection for one of the engines that was accidentally hit by workers doing some repairs,” the agency said.

The MMDA said that they had already sent personnel to assess and fix the problem.

It said that based on the forecast, high tides could push the water level by up to 1.9 meters during the night, causing water to spill over into the streets.

The MMDA said that they are already in close coordination with the LGUs of Navotas and Malabon City.

“What’s important is for residents to prepare while the problem is being fixed,” it said.

While pumping stations in the area are working, they are not enough to stop a huge volume of water from spilling over, the MMDA warned.
