A motorcyclist was shot in Manila’s Tondo district, leading to a crash that killed his female passenger.
CCTV footage captured the incident along Agora Street on December 30, as reported by Johmer Apresto on 24 Oras Weekend on Sunday.
The motorcyclist survived with a gunshot wound to his left shoulder, but the woman died at the scene.
Initial investigations revealed the two victims had met earlier at a bar. According to the woman’s partner, she had told him she was attending her aunt’s birthday party that day and planned to go out with a female friend afterward.
“May nagpakilala daw na dalawang lalaki na maki-join, pero tinanggihan nila kasi di mapagkakatiwalaan ang itsura. Tapos, may isang lalaking lumapit na driver ng motor, at siya ang tinanggap nilang makainuman,” the woman’s partner said.
(Two men reportedly approached them and asked to join them, but they refused because the men seemed untrustworthy. Later, another man, the motorcycle driver, approached, and they accepted his invitation.)
Later that evening, the woman suggested to her friend that they head home. Unable to find a ride after waiting for 30 minutes, the motorcycle driver offered them a lift.
As they traveled along Rodriguez Street, the woman’s friend noticed they were being followed. Alarmed, the friend jumped off the motorcycle upon reaching C3 Road and did not witness the shooting.
The attack occurred at the corner of Agora Street, where one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist lost control, causing the vehicle to crash into a truck.
The woman’s family suspects the motorcyclist was the target of the attack. They are now grappling with burial expenses and caring for her two children, aged four years and nine months.
Police have identified persons of interest in the shooting and continued to investigate the case. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/DVM, GMA Integrated News
