The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Friday that five people have died, 20 were injured, and two are missing due to severe weather conditions caused by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and a Shear Line.

In total, 436,164 individuals or 139,000 families have been affected by the adverse weather. Among them, 549 families, or 2,366 individuals, are currently seeking refuge in 29 evacuation centers.

The inclement weather caused significant infrastructure damage, with one power interruption reported, 39 roads, and six bridges rendered impassable in the affected areas. The estimated cost of damages reached P215.7 million, with 698 houses partially damaged and 394 completely destroyed.

As of this report, more than P15.15 million in assistance has been distributed. Additionally, states of calamity have been declared in Baco, Oriental Mindoro, as well as Don Marcelino and Malita in Davao Occidental.

In its Friday afternoon forecast, PAGASA predicted cloudy conditions over parts of Luzon due to the Northeast Monsoon and the Shear Line. Overcast skies and rain are expected in Batanes from the monsoon, while the Shear Line will bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and isolated thunderstorms to Central Luzon, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

The rest of the country is forecast to experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized weather disturbances. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
