MANILA, Philippines — There are a total of 41,678 active local and national candidates in the midterm polls as of Jan. 7, 2025, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday.
The Comelec released its data following the start of the printing of the official ballots.
The report highlights 56 candidates running for the Senate and 155 groups competing for Party-list seats at the national level.
For local government positions, there are 72 candidates for provincial governor, 170 for provincial vice-governor, and 2,015 vying for seats at the House of Representatives. Municipalities are also set for intense competition, with 3,295 candidates registered for the position of vice-mayor.
At the city level, 1,613 candidates are running for mayor, while 7,341 individuals are running as councilors.
The scale and intensity of the elections highlight the dynamic political landscape as the country prepares for another pivotal electoral season.
