The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Sunday that it will deploy personnel and water assets along portions of the Pasig River where the procession for the Feast of Jesus Nazareno will take from the Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.
Nazareno 2025 and Quiapo Church spokesperson Fr. Robert Arellano said that patrol craft and rubber boats will be on standby at the Pasig River bridges in Manila on January 9 should there be a need to rescue anyone while the Traslacion is ongoing.
“‘Yung aming mga tauhan dito sa may ilog, sa Pasig River… Alam naman natin na ‘pag dumadaan do’n, dahil sa bugso ng mga taong gustong sumama sa prusisyon ay baka magkaroon ng insidente na malaglag do’n pagtawid nila sa tulay,” Arellano said in a Super Radyo dzBB interview.
(Coast Guard personnel will be deployed along the Pasig River… As we all know, due to the influx of devotees wanting to join the procession, there might be an incident where someone falls into the river while crossing the bridges.)
“Maximized ang ating mga water assets at personnel sa area na ‘yan to make sure na kung sakaling hindi maiwasan na meron talagang malaglag doon sa baba ay mai-rescue kaagad dahil minsan ‘di natin alam ‘yung current diyan medyo malakas din lalo na ‘pag umulan,” he assured.
(We will maximize our water assets and personnel in that area to ensure that if someone really falls down there, s/he will be rescued immediately. Sometimes the current there is quite strong especially when it rains.)
The Traslacion, which is a key part of the annual celebration of the Feast of Jesus Nazareno, is the procession of the 400-year-old image of Jesus Christ from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.
Millions of devotees are expected to participate in the activities.
For this year, the Quiapo Church said that the “traditional route” will be used for the Traslacion.
