THE Philippines and Georgia have identified specific measures to enhance cooperation by signing agreements on consular matters, maritime issues, seafarer certification, education, environmental conservation and customs.
At the fourth political consultations between representatives from both countries, the Philippines and Georgia recognized tourism, science and technology, and culture as sectors with significant potential for fostering bilateral partnerships.
Before the meeting began, Undersecretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) welcomed Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia back to Manila for these consultations.
Khvtisiashvili had previously visited Manila to co-chair the second session of the political consultations 2022 with Lazaro.
Both officials reaffirmed the consultations’ significance as a vital platform for diplomatic engagement, outlining the future direction of bilateral relations and open discussions about regional and international geopolitical developments.
The consultations allowed for candid exchanges on various regional and international issues, particularly concerning the South China Sea and the changing political landscapes in European countries.
Lazaro emphasized that “dialogue is key to understanding each country’s perspectives.”
The Philippines and Georgia also agreed to hold the next political consultations in Tbilisi in 2027 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.
