Around 170,000 passengers flocked the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) on Thursday as people returned from the holidays.

According to Mark Salazar’s 24 Oras report, PITX management is expecting the influx to continue increasing until Sunday.

“Magkasama na yan yung mga nagsisiuwian galing sa probinsya at yung mga taga probinsya na nagbakasyon sa Metro Manila,” said PITX corporate affairs head Jason Salvador.

(This includes those who are returning home from the province and those from the provinces who vacationed in Metro Manila.)

He said one of their concerns is the Bicol route due to the intensity of traffic on Andaya Highway, which affected the passengers traveling home before Christmas.

“Thankfully nagkaroon tayo ng mga standby vehicles. Yun ang ginawa nating adjustment. Dineploy natin sila, in-activate agad para hindi ganun katagal ang paghihintay dito ng mga kapuso natin,” said Salvador.

(Thankfully we had standby vehicles. That’s the adjustment we made, we deployed them and activated them immediately so that our loved ones don’t have to wait so long here.)

Meanwhile, the ports are also being monitored as more than 600,000 passengers are expected to arrive starting tomorrow, Friday, until the weekend. A large number of passengers were also recorded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) today.

The number of passengers passing through NAIA in 2024 is expected to reach 50.1 million, more than 10% more than the previous year and surpassing the airport’s highest-recorded passengers. — Sherylin Untalan/BM, GMA Integrated News
