MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government yesterday took down election paraphernalia and other advertising materials posted in prohibited areas in the city.
Personnel from the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety and the Traffic and Transport Management Department implemented “Oplan Baklas” to remove materials that violated an ordinance regulating advertising displays and political propaganda.
The operation was conducted in major areas and thoroughfares in the city, including C.P. Garcia, Katipunan Avenue, Xavierville, East Avenue, Tomas Morato, Kamuning, Timog, Anonas and E. Rodriguez.
“The local government once again reminds the public that posting election materials on Meralco posts and public equipment and facilities such as street signs, traffic lights, signal posts, bridges and overpasses in the city is strictly prohibited,” the local government said in Filipino.
Among those prohibited to be posted in the said areas were streamers, stickers, decals, pamphlets, tin plates, cardboards, tarpaulins, printed notices, signboards, billboards, political propaganda and other forms of advertising paraphernalia.
The city government urged those behind the prohibited materials to take the initiative to take them down. The public can also file a complaint by calling the city’s Helpline 122.
Earlier, the Commission on Elections urged local officials to help take down campaign materials violating local policies and regulations.
