MANILA, Philippines — Three weather systems – the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), shear line, and northeast monsoon– will bring rain in most areas of the country on the first day of 2025, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wednesday.
Pagasa said the ITCZ will affect Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan.
Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region, Palawan, Romblon, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides may occur.
Meanwhile, a shear line, or the convergence of warm and cold winds, will affect the eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon, Pagasa said in its 4 a.m. advisory.
Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Apayao, Aurora, Bulacan, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line.
The northeast monsoon or amihan, on the other hand, will affect the rest of Northern Luzon.
Batanes will have cloudy skies with rains due to the northeast monsoon.
The Ilocos Region, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, and Nueva Vizcaya will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.
The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the shear line.
The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the ITCZ.
Meanwhile, the northern and western sections of Northern Luzon will have moderate to strong winds moving northeastward while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds moving in the east to northeast direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
