The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday conducted a clearing operation along the procession route and alternative roads a day before the Traslacion in Manila.
MMDA Special Operations Group – Strike Force chief Gabriel Go said that since Monday, nearly 100 illegally parked and unattended vehicles have been towed.
“Almost 100 vehicles na po ang ating nato-tow simula po noong Lunes and more than 200 tickets issued na po tayo dito po sa ruta na dadaanan ng Traslacion. And of course, as I said, pati po sa mga alternatibong kalsada na dadaanan ng mga trucks at private vehicles,” Go told GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita.
(We have towed almost 100 vehicles since Monday and we have issued more than 200 tickets here on the route of the Traslacion. And of course, as I said, this also covers the alternative roads that trucks and private vehicles use.)
The stalls of sidewalk vendors along the Traslacion route and alternative roads have been seized, Go said.
“As regards naman po sa mga vendors o iligal na structure, maganda naman po actually kasi yung clearing operation natin hindi lang naman natin isinasagawa ito during meron pong mga idaraos po na mga event,” he said.
(As regards to vendors or illegal structures, it’s actually good because our clearing operation is not only conducted when there are events.)
“We’ve been doing this for quite some time already. Halos wala na po masyadong vendors. Ilan-ilan na lang po ang ating nasita at nakumpiskang obstruction po,” he added.
(We’ve been doing this for quite some time already. There are almost no more vendors. We only saw and confiscated a few obstructions.)
According to a report of James Agustin on Unang Balita, among the towed vehicles along alternative roads were two armored vehicles on Quezon Avenue corner Examiner Street and an AUV on Dapitan Street in Quezon City.
The driver of an SUV on Dapitan Street received a ticket.
At the Dapitan Arcade, MMDA personnel also accosted some sidewalk vendors, according to the report.
The Feast of Jesus Nazareno is a 10-day activity which started from December 31, 2024 and will culminate on January 9, 2025 with the Traslacion or the procession of the image.
The Traslacion route will start at Quirino Grandstand and end at Quiapo Church.
