Vice President Sara Duterte went to Japan over the weekend for a private trip, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) confirmed Monday.

During the course of her stay in Japan, the OVP said that Duterte visited various groups of overseas Filipino workers (OFW).

She is already back in the Philippines as of Monday.

The OVP has not yet confirmed whether Duterte will be present in the ongoing peace rally staged by members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) at Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

The Vice President, however, is expected to release a video statement regarding the national INC rally in the afternoon.

The INC is holding the National Rally for Peace to express support for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s stance against impeachment moves against Vice President Sara Duterte.

The President earlier said that impeaching Duterte would not benefit anyone.

As of 10 a.m. Monday, the Manila Police District (MPD) said at least 1.5 million INC members coming from nearby provinces of Cavite, Quezon, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, and Zambales arrived in Manila for the National Rally of Peace. — Giselle Ombay/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
