MANILA, Philippines — At least four people were injured in a fire that hit a storage facility in Quiapo in Manila yesterday.

The blaze started at 1:42 a.m. along Calero street and reached the third alarm at 5:32 a.m. The fire was declared under control at noon, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.

The BFP identified the injured as Cliff Osmeña, Kenneth Manonog and firefighters Daryl Aguinaldo and Claro Dulnuan.

Both Osmeña and Aguinaldo suffered lacerations in their fingers while Manonog and Dulnuan both had difficulty breathing due to smoke inhalation.

Barangay 309 Chairman Jojo Manuel said he was on patrol when he saw the blaze at the warehouse used by an online shop for its plastic, beauty and other products.

After alerting the firemen, he called on his officers and nearby residents to help douse the fire using the bucket relay method.

Arson probers are yet to determine the cause of the fire, which resulted to about P15 million worth of damage to property.

Meanwhile, eight families were affected by a fire that hit a residential area in Barangay Sucat, Muntinlupa City on Saturday.

The BFP said the blaze, which started at 6:52 p.m., quickly spread to eight houses before it was declared under control about an hour later.

No one was reported injured in the incident and damage to property was initially pegged at P25,000. Probers are also determining the cause of the fire.
