The Marikina River is on first alarm, the local government unit said, as heavy rains overnight led to rising water levels.
The first alarm was raised at 5:30 a.m. as the water reached 15.0 meters.
This means residents should “prepare.”
The local government unit is monitoring the Marikina River’s water levels as more rains pour due to the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Carina.
It will raise the second alarm when the water reaches 16 meters, at which point residents should “evacuate”. The third alarm meanwhile will be raised when the water reaches 18 meters, necessitating “forced evacuation”.
PAGASA raised the red rainfall warning over Metro Manila, Rizal, and Bataan at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, warning of serious flooding expected in flood-prone areas.
Typhoon Carina has further intensified early Wednesday morning as it continues to move towards Taiwan, according to the latest typhoon bulletin posted by PAGASA.
Metro Manila, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, Cavite, Batangas, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, and Laguna will have occasional rains due to the Southwest Monsoon with possible flash floods or landslides occurring due to moderate to intense rains, the weather bureau said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
