Sen. Robinhood Padilla has assumed his post as president of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), the party announced on Wednesday.
Padilla, previously the party’s executive vice president and acting president, replaced Palawan 2nd District Rep. Jose Chaves Alvarez, who tendered his resignation.
“As the new PDP-Laban president, Sen. Padilla will continue to consolidate the party membership and prepare for the 2025 midterm elections, which Rep. Alvarez started,” the PDP-Laban said in a statement.

“We are confident that under Sen. Padilla’s leadership, the party is in good hands and will continue to be a major force for reform and development in the country,” it added.
PDP-Laban said it was grateful to Alvarez for leading the party for the last 20 months.
In the Senate, Padilla has advocated reforms to the 1987 Constitution, peace and order, and anti-illegal drugs legislation, asserting the country’s sovereignty and Filipino Muslim rights.
PDP–Laban is a democratic socialist political party founded in 1982. It has been the ruling party since the beginning of the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte in 2016.
