Former Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis Singson said Thursday he plans to redevelop the 16-hectare Metrowalk Commercial Complex into a “new city within a city.”

Singson, chairman of the LCS Group, told the Manila Standard the company is negotiating with Korean investors to begin work on the project this year.

The plan calls for state-of-the-art office and commercial buildings, hotels and a Korean lifestyle hub, he said.

BLEMP Commercial Philippines Inc., an LCS Group company, owns the Metrowalk complex. Singson said he was waiting for the government approval to start the project, which would include a station for the Metro Manila Subway.

LCS Group, which is also into construction, bus transport, mining, car dealerships, power and entertainment employs thousands of people, Singson said.

“The business has been performing well, especially the one in Korea,” he said. The group has invested in factories in VOGO Industries, a Korean shipbuilder that produces eco-friendly vessels.

Singson said also discussed with the Department of Transportation the replacement of old jeepneys with electric vehicles. He proposed a zero-interest loan of P1.2 million for transport cooperatives to buy the modern vehicles, just half of the P2.8 million tag price for other e-vehicles.
