SEN. Bong Go highlighted the need for a firm yet peaceful and diplomatic approach in protecting the nation’s sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea.
“We will monitor the promises shared by the administration, such as defending what is truly ours regarding the issue of the West Philippine Sea,” said Go in Filipino.
“I hope this can be achieved in a peaceful and diplomatic manner. We do not want conflict. But what is ours is ours. The important thing is to protect the lives and livelihoods of every Filipino,” he said.

In his State of the Nation Address last Monday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stressed the significance of the West Philippine Sea as an enduring element of the nation’s identity.
“The West Philippine Sea is not just a figment of our imagination. It is ours and will remain ours as long as the spirit of our beloved nation, the Philippines, burns bright. We will strengthen and expand the awareness and knowledge of the entire nation and ensure that we pass this on to our youth and future generations,” Marcos said.
Go has previously denounced aggressive acts by the Chinese in the region, notably when a China Coast Guard vessel fired water cannons at a Filipino boat trying to deliver supplies to the BRP Sierra Madre, which is grounded at Ayungin Shoal.
