MANILA, Philippines — A new weather disturbance has been spotted over Mindanao but its effects won’t be felt over the next 48 hours, the state weather bureau said on Friday.
Weather specialist James Daniel Villamil of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the low pressure area (LPA) was sighted some 1, 035 kilometers east of southeastern Mindanao.
“It was forecast to unlikely affect the country in at least over the next 48 hours but it would bring rain in some areas,” the Pagasa forecaster said.
The southwest monsoon locally known as “habagat ” will continue to bring rains in the Ilocos Region, Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
Habagat is also bringing occasional rains over Bataan, Zambales, Pampanga and Bataan, the state-run weather agency said in its 5a.m. advisory.
The same weather system would be affecting Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon where overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms would prevail while isolated downpours would be likely over Visayas.
Meanwhile, it would be generally fair weather over Mindanao within the next 24 hours, however, isolated rain showers or thunderstorms would be experienced especially in the late afternoon or at night due to the localized thunderstorms, it added.
