The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on Sunday refuted claims on social media that people should not eat fish as medical waste was allegedly dumped into the sea.
The BFAR said that information circulating on social media claiming that medical waste, specifically a “tube from a hospital with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV),” was dumped into the sea was “false information.”
“The Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources strongly counters this claim, as the information is NOT TRUE,” it said.
The bureau also urged the public to remain vigilant and verify information before sharing any posts on social media. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
