Suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Leal Guo and her siblings continue to evade authorities ahead of the Senate hearing on the illegal activities of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), which President Marcos has declared a total ban on.
Guo, along with siblings—Sheila, Wesley, and Seimen—has reportedly gone into hiding.
The Senate has issued arrest orders for the Guos due to contempt charges for their repeated failure to attend hearings conducted by the Senate committee on women, children, family relations, and gender equality, chaired by Sen. Risa Hontiveros.
Authorities have been unable to locate the Guo siblings at their known addresses in Bamban, Tarlac; Valenzuela and Quezon cities.
Despite this, the Bureau of Immigration believes the Guos are still in the country, although Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian suggested that Mayor Guo, also known as Guo Hua Ping, may have used her Chinese passport to enter China.
The mayor’s parents, Jian Zhong Guo and biological mother Wenyi Lin—both Chinese nationals—are believed to be in China.
The Senate committee has yet to confirm whether Dennis Cunanan, former Director General of the Technology and Livelihood Resource Center (TLRC), will appear at the fifth hearing.
Currently, only Nancy Gamo, the accountant for Mayor Guo, is in Senate custody and expected to attend the hearing.
Hontiveros stated that the Guo siblings, Cunanan, and Gamo were invited to clarify their alleged links to the raided POGO hubs in Bamban, Tarlac, and Porac, Pampanga. Both Cunanan and Gamo face contempt charges.
Despite the total ban on POGO operations, Hontiveros is determined to continue the hearings to ensure the President’s order is enforced and to hold those responsible accountable.
The Anti-Money Laundering Council has frozen all assets of Mayor Guo, her family members, and supposed co-incorporators associated with POGOs. Senate President Francis Escudero has assured the Guos and Cunanan of their safety and protection should they surface and appear in the Senate.
